If you are facing connection issues with your dedicated hosting at the time when you are trying to connect it using FTP then these are the points that you need to check, as they are the most common reasons for this failure :
- The login for your cPanel FTP should look something like an email address similar to login@domain-name.abc where domain-name.abc is your domain name. Do NOT just use the login as that will not work.
- You might be using the incorrect password, make sure you are using a correct one, check for lower and upper case as password is case sensitive. You can copy paste it if you have stored it somewhere on your local machine.
- Someone may have changed your FTP password, so check and make sure it was not changed. If you can login to your control panel then you can change it again.
- Your FTP program (e.g. Dream-weaver and others) must be set to a passive connection as setting as FTP Active mode will NOT work.
Hence you should take care for securing your FTP password which should not be shared with anyone else, as if any any one mange to get access to your FTP then this may create problem for your server or for your dedicated hosting account .

Almost all the web hosting providers are giving an option to choose from Linux or windows for the operating system of dedicated servers. I have seen lots of debates on the internet whether or not Linux or Windows is the perfect operating system for the server, but the bottom line is that 70 to 80% of small business owners or mid-level traffic clients, it doesn’t make any difference whether you are using Linux or Windows on your dedicated servers. I personally use Linux for my servers, and I am using it without any problem from a long time. I am not having much experience with Windows OS, but I have used it some times and they seemed to be responsive and pretty much good at serving HTTP requests as their source is same.
You might have noticed that I have not mentioned anything on – which OS should someone go with?
If you are not going to develop any windows specific site that use the things like ASP or ASP.NET, I would suggest you to go with Linux. As because OS is free, it will help you in some cost cuttings. CentOS is also a easy server GUI which is very user-friendly, and with the newest version of CentOS has made it pretty much easy to set up a web server by using Apache as it is using Windows Server and IIS.
I honestly admit that I may be a little biased because I use Linux more for my work and it is quiet possible that I can’t see the difficulties in it. It was not so difficult for me to pick up and I have been using windows system all my life. I will end-up here by saying it can’s hurt you to run Linux if you are not afraid of learning a little and not running any OS specific applications.
